LOCKDOWN IN MELBOURNE

Isolation is on and travel plans are off. Is staying indoors driving you mental too? Well it’s a good job we’re here to help you with how to cope alone when dealing with this coronavirus outbreak. Whether it’s learning how to cope with your own company or making the most out of living in Melbourne now your flights are off. Here are some top tips of things to do while in lockdown in Melbourne.

To Do In Melbourne

If you’re looking to avoid over-crowded places like the Art Galleries, City Streets, Shops, Pubs and Clubs but still looking for that fresh air while being kept out of work, then we have a few places you can visit to avoid going bananas in your bedroom.

Bum Out At The Beach

Ok so maybe St Kilda is not going to be the best place if you’re looking to stay away from the hustle and bustle, but Melbourne do have plenty of other beaut beaches that locals sometimes forget. Williamstown, Sandridge, Black Rock and Bonbeach are some of the few that can be forgotten about when heading out to hit the waves. When chilling out in the sun you will still feel you made that travel vacation.

Botanical Gardens

You may be feeling unmotivated to exercise now your travel plans are off, but it’s important to get those good endorphins in tact. Heading for a walk around the Botanical Gardens will give you the fresh air you need while stuck under isolation. Plus it the plenty of flowers and plants will allow you to smell something other than bacterial hand sanitiser. Taking a picnic or even just wondering around the grounds will make you feel like you’re on your travels and not stuck in the city.

Take a Drive

If you’re worried about walking around the city then you can always take a scenic drive. Whether it is down the Great Ocean Road, visiting Melbourne unique Pink Lake, towards the Yarra Valley or over to Mornington Peninsula. Just put a bit of Triple J on the radio and speed out of the city to see some other sights aside from the 4 walls in your flat.

Places To Eat

We all know heading to the supermarket is a flop, with them only having a couple of sad looking lettuces left on the shelf. So as long as you don’t have the virus itself then why not try some new cafes and restaurants in the area? Plus this will help the local businesses.

  1. Head to Lentils As Anything to try their awesome Vegan dishes. Lentils is in St Kilda and full of funky folk. Most people turn up alone and its the norm to share a table, so it’s super easy to make some mates. Plus this place has the policy of ‘pay what you think it’s worth’ so whether your a tight-arse or feel the food is very valuable then whatever you wish, pay away.
  2. Eat at an open kitchen restaurant so you can see the chefs at work, not only does this give you some entertainment but you might even pick up some cooking tips. The best open restaurant eateries we’ve seen in Mels are Japanese Teppanyaki Inn on Collins Street, Chez Dre in South Melbourne , Cumulus Inc on Flinders Lane and Pastuso on ACDC Lane.
  3. Pick yourself up some banging brunch at The House of Lulu Whites in South Yarra, The Crux & Co in Alberts Park, or Top Paddock Cafe in Richmond.
  4. Eat a plate of delicious dumplings in Chinatown.

Learn Something New

We know this outbreak won’t last forever, so why not make the most of the time at home and teach yourself something new that you can show off when it’s over? Such as learning a new language or buying a book on astronomy, an encyclopaedia or some puzzle / brain teaser books. What are the things you’ve always wondered and wanted to know about? What is that book you’ve always wanted to read?
