Meet Pelikin’s New Graphic Design Guru
We want to welcome Pelikin’s awesome new graphic design guru Jalissa! We’re proud as punch to introduce our newest member of the Pelikin Squad Jalissa, who will be taking on all our design needs using her epic designer skills and expertise.
Last month we had to say goodbye to our awesome man Matt, who was with Pelikin since day dot. He did some incredible work while at Pelikin over the years, but he has officially fled the next to start his exciting new adventure. But it’s not all doom and gloom, in fact, we are ecstatic to announce our newest member Jalissa and here she tells us all about her love for travel and what exciting jobs she will be getting involved with at Pelikin!
Hey Jelissa, welcome to the squad! We’re super happy to have you on board. Please tell us a little about yourself
Jalissa: Hi, thank you I’m excited to be part of the team! My name is Jalissa, I’m 26 and was born and raised in Newcastle, NSW or ‘Newy’ as the locals call it.
For the past two years, I’ve called Melbourne home and have fallen in love with the people and culture here. While I miss the sun and having a beach at my doorstep, it’s the opportunities and exciting city life that I enjoy most about Melbourne.
Outside of Pelikin, I study a postgraduate in digital marketing and enjoy trying new recipes, palette knife painting, or practicing Spanish.
That’s awesome, you’ll have to show us some of your paintings at some point. Now tell us, what’s your new role is at Pelikin and why did you want to join our awesome team?
Jalissa: Here at Pelikin, I look after their graphic design needs and have already worked on projects for our app, socials and marketing materials.
I wanted to be a part of Pelikin because a lot of young Australians, including myself, experience resistance when looking to travel overseas. I love knowing that I’m working for a company that is helping to remove some of the pain points associated with travelling and is empowering Millennials to head overseas and experience the gifts of travel.
We couldn’t agree more Jalissa! What is your biggest achievement at Pelikin so far?
Jalissa: Recently, we partnered with Travello where I got to work on some creative projects for our app and socials. Now I’m looking forward to working with the team in creating designs for our app and growing Pelikin.
The work you did on Travello is awesome, and for all those who haven’t seen it yet, check out our new partners and Jalissa’s work here.
Now, you must love travelling to be a part of Pelikin so tell us a bit about your past travel experience, where is the last place you have visited?
Jalissa: I’ve been lucky to move around and explore most of Australia. At the age of 18, I went on a 2-month road trip around Western Australia and since then I’ve lived in places such as Hamilton Island, Byron Bay and South West Rocks.
My most recent trip was to Lorne, Victoria. This place is a 10 on the bliss factor, and it has a great wave for beginner surfers. If you’re visiting and looking for a place to eat, I recommend trying the Mexican Republic. The fish tacos and Pineapple Quesadilla are some of the best.
That sounds awesome, Australia has some of the most beautiful scenery and hidden gems. Where is your favourite place you have visited?
Jalissa: There are so many, but one of the best things I have ever done was free dive around Ningaloo Reef, 30 minutes off the coast of Exmouth, Western Australia. The sea life here is like no other, and it’s one of the only places in Australia where you can swim with whale sharks.
Wow that sounds amazing, but super scary! Where is your dream destination to visit?
Jalissa: My dream destination is Mexico! Not only do I love Mexican food, but I’m drawn to their vibrant culture, and I’m a huge fan of the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
When I visit a new country, I make it my mission to seek out a local artist and buy something that will remind me of my trip and look nice on my apartment wall. I cannot wait to do this in Mexico.
That is such a fab idea, plus you can use your Spanish skills when you’re over there. Now this is the last question, and we know this is a tricky one, but what is your favourite feature on the Pelikin App?
Jalissa: I’m the type of person who dislikes reminding a friend that they owe money and I also don’t like forgetting that I owe someone else, so the split bill functionality would have to be one of my favourite features for overseas group travel. I think this is great because you can easily see what money you’ve spent, and share bills with your friends. This takes away the hassle of having to remind the group of IOUs and makes it easier for friends to budget and transfer money when needed.
Definitely one of the best features, and for those who haven’t checked our split bill feature out yet, then do so here. Thanks for the Q&A Jalissa, and thanks for joining the Pelikin Squad.
