How to Choose the Best Travel Money Card

Whether you plan to backpack across Europe, adventure through South America, or quickly pop over to Bali, there is a Travel Money Card for you. We have a card for everyone, and this blog will help you decide which travel card is the best.

If you’re a student, there’s a travel card for you.

Our Student Traveller Card allows you to withdraw cash from overseas ATMs without additional fees. You don’t need a banking account. It comes with low foreign exchange rates.

If you’re under 30, there’s a travel card for you too.

Our Youth Traveller Card offers similar benefits to our Student Traveller Card but with added perks such as free reloads and no reload fee.

Are you travelling with friends?

No worries, there’s a travel card for you as well. Our Pelikin Travel Money Card allows you to split bills and expenses with your travel companions through the app, making it easy to track who owes what.

No matter which card you choose, all our travel cards can be used virtually with Apple Pay or Google Pay, making payments even more convenient. So, consider getting a travel money card from us to avoid high fees and unfavourable exchange rates when travelling abroad.

Pelikin Travel Money Card

The first option is our Pelikin Travel Money Card. In a nutshell, you will get:

This card is suitable for everyone, especially for those travelling overseas frequently. With Pelikin, you can avoid foreign transaction fees and currency conversion fees. Plus, you can withdraw cash from accessible ATMs in various foreign currencies such as EUR, GBP, and Australian dollars.

You can take advantage of everything Pelikin can offer, and the best part is… it’s FREE. No sign-up or ongoing fees exist, so you can spend the money where you want to.

Create your account quickly through the Pelikin app, and you can instantly load money and start spending with the virtual travel card. Order your physical Pelikin Travel Money Card from there, and you can use both! So, consider getting a Pelikin Travel Money Card to save money while travelling abroad.

Student Traveller Card

The second option is our Student Traveller Card, a prepaid travel card specifically designed for students. If you are a student, this card is a MUST! It’s much more beneficial than using a regular debit or credit card when travelling overseas.

Still, trying to figure it out? – have a look at all the benefits. They speak for themselves:

  • Enjoy all the benefits of a travel debit card, such as withdrawing money from overseas ATMs without incurring high fees
  • Access to 150,000 student discounts worldwide
  • Prove you’re a student worldwide with an International Student Identity Card (ISIC)
  • Save up to 15% on flights
  • Save money on travel, shopping, food and drinks (the list goes on)
  • Only $3 a month for access to all these discounts and savings
  • Plus, all the benefits of the Pelikin Travel Money Card.

We think the Student Traveller Card is a no-brainer. Access to the ISIC card will also unlock further discounts overseas (think discounted or free entry to museums and tourist attractions). Make sure you save money where you can and benefit from these discounts.

The Student Traveller Card is available on top of the Pelikin Travel Card as a virtual card, so you can easily access your card and your ID wherever you are.

Youth Traveller Card

Last but not least is our Youth Traveller Card. You should still have access to great discounts even if you’re not a student. The Youth Traveller Card ensures you save where you can as a youth under 30. Here’s what you will get:

  • Access to 150,000 youth discounts worldwide
  • Prove you’re a youth worldwide with an International Youth Identity Card (IYIC)
  • Save money on travel, shopping, food and drinks (the list goes on)
  • Only $3 a month for access to all these discounts and savings
  • Plus, all the benefits of the Pelikin Travel Money Card.

Much like the Student Traveller Card, the Youth Traveller Card gets you an IYIC card that will help you prove your youth identity worldwide. Ensure you keep access to discounts and get your Youth Traveller Card before leaving.

The Youth Traveller Card and IYIC card are both available as virtual cards, so you won’t lose them and can access these special discounts from anywhere in the world.

Virtual Cards for Apple Pay and Google Pay

If you prefer to use your phone for payments, you can set up any of our travel cards with Apple Pay and Google Pay. All our cards can be set up virtually, allowing you to start spending before your physical card arrives. Find out more information on setting this up here.

Once set up, use them like any other Visa bank card.

Setting up a virtual card before your physical card arrives is very useful in case you lose your physical card or want to get started immediately. (Remember you can freeze and unfreeze any lost cards?

If you don’t have reliable internet when travelling, we recommend you get yourself a physical card (this will also make it easier to access cash).

Which Travel Card is the Best?

It depends on your needs and preferences. Our Pelikin Travel Money Card offers Visa or Mastercard payment options if you prefer to travel with a credit card. On the other hand, if you want to avoid high card fees and cash withdrawals while travelling, our prepaid travel cards, such as the Student Traveller Card and Youth Traveller Card, can be more suitable for you.

Any of our physical or virtual cards are great, but it’s up to you to decide which card offering suits your travel needs and budget the best.

Happy Travelling!
